Geum 'Mrs. Bradshaw' is a captivating perennial prized for its bright scarlet-red semi-double blooms.
Standing tall on slender stems, these vibrant flowers contrast beautifully against its lush, soft green, serrated foliage. Blooming from late spring to early summer—and often returning for an encore in the fall—this variety is ideal for bringing bold colour to borders, cottage gardens, and floral arrangements. Hummingbirds and butterflies adore it, and gardeners love its reliable charm.
- Height: 20–24 inches (50–60 cm)
- Spread: 12–15 inches (30–38 cm)
- Sunlight: Full sun to light shade
Growing Instructions:
Soil: Prefers moist, well-draining soil rich in organic matter.
Planting:
- Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost date.
- Cover seeds lightly with soil, as they need some light to germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist.
- Germination occurs in 14–21 days at temperatures of 68–72°F (20–22°C).
- Transplant young seedlings outdoors after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them 12–15 inches apart.
Care:
- Water regularly, especially during hot, dry spells. Aim to keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy.
- Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a longer blooming period and prevent unwanted self-seeding.
- Cut back foliage in late fall or early spring to allow for fresh growth.
Overwintering:
In colder climates, add a protective layer of mulch after the ground freezes to insulate the roots.
